2023 DETAILS FOR CHEER PARENTS

Hello cheer parents!

We’ll go through a lot of this during our first practice, but I wanted to get them laid out here. If you’d like to save this info, click here and bookmark the page:

SPORTS ENGINE APP: Please download SPORTS ENGINE and create an account if you don’t have one yet. Then, you’ll link your kiddo by adding the correct Cheer Squad. This app will have every date of practice, games, events, and more. This is the most ideal way to communicate with me as it keeps everything in one location. If you have trouble accessing the app, please contact Ziggy Meluskey, Director of the Bantam Program at bm967@icloud.com; I WILL BE LOADING THE GAMES THE FIRST WEEK INTO SPORTS ENGINE.

PRACTICE vs. GAMES: Both practices and games will always be at Pleasant Crossing Elementary (3030 125 W Whiteland, IN). Practices will always be beside the playground. Games will be in one of the 3 football fields (will be indicated which squad on which field on Sports Engine). Please reserve every Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 6pm. We have practices from 6:15pm - 7:15pm. We have games usually 6:00pm - 7:30ish. Sometimes all 3 squads will have a game and sometimes all 3 squads will have practice. Some days, only 1 squad will have practice and 2 will have games and vice versa. The Sports Engine app will indicate game days so you know if she needs to be in full uniform. The game dates will be posted in the next two weeks. On practice days, the girls can just wear comfy gym clothes. For both games and practices, ALWAYS bring water. I recommend their hair back / up (many girls asked for hair ties last year). The sun will still be out so please SPF before practice. And if your kiddo is averse to bugs / mosquitos, please spray them down before practice. We start every practice with warm ups, then we learn moves / cheers. If you want to drop your girls off for practice or games, please be sure to let Parent Squad Captain so we can be sure they go to the correct guardian and/or can contact you in the case of an emergency. You’ll want to bring a camp chair as there is no seating. We usually have concession stands for game days.

AWAY GAMES: We DO NOT cheer at away games.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: On practice days, if there is inclement weather, we MAY practice inside Pleasant Crossing at the gym — PLEASE check Sports Engine on rainy weather days to see if practice is canceled or just moved inside. On game days, cancellations are announced on Sports Engine at least 30 min prior to the game. Please note, if you drop off your kiddo and the weather changes DURING practice or a game, you MUST come back and/or stick around in case weather causes a cancellation.

UNIFORMS: I will be ordering these on Sunday. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me your measurements if you haven’t done so. You a see those instructions here:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BXOUcYI2qrwcbaxsP-8ckKka-ZfQF1os26dtWW8GR2U/edit?usp=sharing. As of today, I’m still missing 6 out of 65 girls. As soon as I receive the order, I’ll send them to get embroidered locally. Then, I plan to bring them to the next practice once they are in hand. The goal is to have them by August 12 Jamboree. If they aren’t here in time, it will be the following practice. Each girl will receive a uniform top, uniform skirt, briefs, socks, bow, and pom poms. Please keep in mind that in late September / early October, they can wear leggings or turtle necks or long sleeves under their uniform to stay warm.

SHOES: Please go ahead and get your kiddo WHITE tennis shoes at any place you’d like. Walmart, Target, Rack Room, and Shoe Carnival are probably the most affordable. Online as well — just make sure the fit.

PICTURE DAY / JAMBOREE AUGUST 12 (likely 10am to noon): So long as uniforms are in on this date (I’ll let you know ASAP), we will cheer at a specific time on this date. There are lots of games during jamboree but I’ll select an hour to cover a few games. If we have uniforms, we’ll also do picture day just before we cheer. Just pencil this date for now. This will be at Whiteland Community High School football field. If for any reason you don’t want your child photographed or their image shared on the Facebook page, please let me know immediately. We like to encourage sharing and posting the girls having fun throughout the season on social media. If their uniforms are not in, we won’t cheer at jamboree and Charrie’s company will take their individual and group photo before a future game date.

CHEER CAMP (aka clinic) AUGUST 19 (9am - 12pm): This will be at Whiteland Community High School North Gym (the gym to the Northside closest to the football field). This program is hosted and put on by the HS cheer squad. This camp is included in your fee. Your girls will receive a camp t-shirt and I’ll send sizes based on their cheer uniform top. If you have questions about this camp, please contact the High School Cheer Coach, Lesleigh at gmama3@sbcglobal.net. I will be at this camp but only to help and take some photos and to be around so the girls have a friendly face. In years past, the parents sign the girls in and can leave and come back about an hour before it’s over so they can see their final performance. The girls are welcome to wear their uniform at this event or comfy gym clothes.

YOUTH HALFTIME PERFORMANCE AUGUST 25 (6:40pm - 8:30ish): This will be at Whiteland Community High School football field. Girls will perform the dance and cheers learned at cheer camp during HIGH SCHOOL football halftime. Cheerleaders in uniform will get in for free. Adults and family fee is $6 (unless that amount changes). Please arrive by 6:40 because the game starts at 7pm and the crowd is usually large (it’s also Senior Night). You’ll go to the west end of the zone (by the rock / concessions) so we can create a human tunnel for the HS football players to go through at 6:55pm. Then, during the second quarter, we’ll get ready for half time when they’ll perform on the field. The girls will be in FULL UNIFORM at this event.

YOUTH RECOGNITION NIGHT SEPTEMBER 1 (6:40pm - 8:30ish): This will be at Whiteland Community High School football field. Girls will be recognized during HIGH SCHOOL football halftime. Cheerleaders in uniform will get in for free. Adults and family fee is $6 (unless that amount changes). Please arrive by 6:40 because the game starts at 7pm and the crowd is usually large. You’ll go to the west end of the zone (by the rock / concessions) so we can create a human tunnel for the HS football players to go through at 6:55pm. Then, during the second quarter, we’ll get ready for half time when they’ll be recognized by running across the field as the squad is announced. The girls will be in FULL UNIFORM at this event.

SNACK SIGN UPS: Parents are encouraged to sign up for snacks for their squad. Please see signup here and commit to the day(s) you’d like. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4EAFA82BA4F8C16-cheer

PARENT SQUAD CAPTAINS: Each of the three squads has parent captains that help me with the program. For Squad 1, you have Tara Walters (twalters@cpcsc.k12.in.us). For Squad 2, you have Tammy Wechsler (tammywechsler@yahoo.com) and Janelle Shaffer-Prince (jshafferprince@yahoo.com). For Squad 3, you have Jennifer Killebrew (jkillebrew@cpcsc.k12.in.us) and Clarissa Hehman (cjhehman@gmail.com). We are still looking for another Squad 1 Parent Captain — if you have interest, please email to let me know. All parent captains have completed a coaches file, including a background check. Parent captains will help the girls learn cheers and dances, be available in case of emergency, share in helping to take the girls to bathroom breaks, etc. These parents (as myself) are all VOLUNTEERS. We don’t get paid to help lead the girls or direct the program. Most of us have jobs outside of the home, so please be mindful when expressing frustrations or concerns and/or awaiting a response via email or text. If there is ever a major concern or immediate response needed, please text or call me.

HIGH SCHOOL CHEER COACHES: Each game and practice should have one high school cheerleader per squad. That coach will be responsible for keeping the girls on track to cheer the right cheers / chants at the right times. They are not there to help with emergencies or potty breaks or to communicate with parents about changes to schedule or drop off or pickup. Remember, these are high school students and for some, this is their first job. Be sure to keep this experience for them pleasant and fun.

DIVISION / SQUAD TRANSFERS: Right now, we have Kindergarten and 1st grade in SQUAD 3; we have 2nd and 3rd grade in SQUAD 2; we have 4th, 5th, and 6th grade in SQUAD 1. If you want your child moved to another squad b/c of a sibling being in another division, you can request so. However, keep in mind that each Football Division has multiple teams; therefore, your Squad 2 child may not cheer for your Football player’s specific team that day. In other words, by switching your child’s squad, this still doesn’t guarantee that she will cheer for her sibling in football at every game. In addition, remember that the squads are broken up by grades (and therefore, age). If you move your 12 year old from squad 1 to squad 3, she will be then cheering with 4, 5, 6 year olds instead of girls in her grade group.

CHEERS & FACEBOOK: Charrie will post the cheers and movements on Facebook. We hope the girls will practice cheers between practices and games. Our Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/WhitelandWarriorsYouthCheerleading. Videos will be posted the day after each practice. If your kiddo misses a practice, please be sure they log on to learn the cheers.

Best,
